Christina Olson Interviewed at Brawler

Christina Olson, Poetry Editro for Midwestern GothicOur very own poetry editor Christina Olson was interviewed by the fine folks over at Brawler in celebration of National Poetry Month. They sought out Midwestern editors for their thoughts about the region and how it influences poetry. Both she and Michael Marberry, poetry editor of Ohio State’s The Journal, take on a set of “intentionally tricky” questions.

Here’s a sneak peek:

“I want poems that have strong voices and know what they’re doing. I look for an arc–I get a lot of poems that are descriptive, and there’s nothing wrong with description when it adds up to something else. But three stanzas of what a barn looks like–and nothing else–doesn’t take the reader to anything new.”
